WE ARE RIDERS, FAMILIES, RACERS, FRIENDS, ADVICE GIVERS, VOLUNTEERS & ADVOCATES

The Fraser Valley Dirt Riders Association (FVDRA) is a family orientated off-road dirt bike and ATV club dedicated to the promotion of safe and responsible dirt riding in British Columbia.

Members ride all over the lower mainland and primarily maintain the trails and campground at the Nickelmine Riding Area, near Hope, BC.

The FVDRA is one of the largest off-road clubs in the province and is unique as it appeals to both dirt bike and ATV riders.  The club is involved in all aspects of the sport, from recreational trail riding to racing.

FVDRA acknowledges and respects the rights of Yale First Nations as the Nickelmine off-road riding area is located in the heart of their ancestral lands. Yale First Nation must be consulted regarding any land or resource actions and decisions in this area.

 FVDRA Code of Conduct

1. PURPOSE

The purpose of the FVDRA Code of Conduct is to describe the type of behaviour that the FVDRA is seeking to promote and encourage its members and supporters to adopt.

2. GOVERNANCE

The code shall be known as FVDRA Code of Conduct. The Code shall govern the conduct of all persons associated with the FVDRA Club. In particular, it shall apply to:

  • Persons acting for and on behalf of FVDRA.

  • Persons participating in FVDRA organized events.

3. KEY PRINCIPLES

FVDRA wishes to acknowledge that we are on sensitive First Nations traditional land. Treat this land with respect. FVDRA wishes to operate in an environment where people show respect for others, their property and the environment. Respect is defined as consideration for another person's physical and emotional well-being, for their possessions and to ensure no damage or deprivation is caused to either.

FVDRA wishes to operate in an environment that is free from harassment. Harassment is defined as any action directed at an individual or group that creates a hostile, intimidating or offensive environment. FVDRA wishes to operate in a non-discriminatory environment. Respect the right, dignity and worth of every human being within the context of the activity; treat everyone equally regardless of gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, ability or religion.

4. CLUB GUIDELINES

Comply with the law. Do not ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Our riding area is surrounded by forest service roads which means that we require at least $200,000 in third party liability insurance. To perform maintenance for FVDRA while using your off-road vehicle (ORV), third party liability insurance is required.

Always wear a helmet and appropriate safety gear. NO HELMET = NO RIDE.

Make sure your ORV is in good condition. Your ORV needs to be in good working order if you want to ride off-road trails for several hours. Being ill prepared puts you and others around you at risk.

Leave no one behind. When riding in a group, stop at all intersections to make sure that the whole group is still together. Everyone helps each other get back to the truck or camp safely.

Be prepared. Bring enough water, food, tools, first aid kit and adequate clothing. Water and/or sports drinks are a must for any ride, long or short. Bring suitable clothing for the trail location (e.g. high alpine vs. valley forest) and weather forecast. Ride in a group.

Maintain control. Ride within your abilities. Losing control of your ORV significantly increases the risk of injury to yourself and others and increases your impact on the environment.

Keep right where possible. The trails can be busy on weekends and holidays, especially around the campsite. Watch for kids and ride right.

Pass with care. Show respect when passing by slowing to a reasonable pace or even stopping. Anticipate other trail users around corners or in blind spots.

Ride to the conditions. Your ability to control your ORV will change in different trail and weather conditions. Ride within the conditions to protect yourself, others and the environment.

Minimize your impact. Observe the minimum impact code; take only photographs and tread lightly. Be sensitive to the dirt beneath you by learning to recognize different types of soils and trail construction. Wet and muddy trails are more vulnerable to damage. When the trail bed is soft, consider other riding options. Be sure to pack out at least as much as you pack in.

Always stay on the trail. For your safety and for the trails, do not widen the trails by creating a new line. This also means staying on existing trails and not creating new ones without the appropriate approval.

Ride on open trails only. Some trails are closed permanently and seasonally for valid reasons. Respect the wishes of trail builders and our association who maintains the trails.

Be courteous and respect other trail users. Being polite and courteous to others using the trail, surrounding forestry service roads and campground, especially non-off-road riders, will improve the image and reputation of our sport.

Spark Arrestors and Sound Control are the law. Keep the sound levels for your ORV to 96dB or less. Use of a spark arrestor is critical with growing wildfire risk in our province. If you smoke, stamp it out with care.

Support trail maintenance. No trail maintenance = No trails = No riding.
